All Cold War classics are welcome to all or part of this great weekend of Eastern Bloc motoring:

Friday:  We meet from midday at Newark Air Museum, one of the largest volunteer managed aviation museums in Great Britain: newarkairmuseum.org/

We will display our vehicles within the museum itself which is home to 75+ aircraft (many displayed within hangars should the weather be unfriendly).  Admission will be £9.00 per car – this covers 2 adult admissions to the museum.  We then run north to a village pub for our evening meal – camping is available with more options nearby in Nottingham.

Saturday:  After breakfast, we meet up with new arrivals for a road run south to Leicester.   We start with a short visit to the National Gas Museum – nationalgasmuseum.org.uk/ – admission is free, but donations appreciated.

We then move on to Abbey Pumping Station Museum and the award-winning National Space Centre –  abbeypumpingstation.org/ + spacecentre.co.uk/ .  Admission to Abbey Pumping Station Museum is free, and the Space Centre is £15.50.

The two attractions tell the story of 200 years of science and technology from the early days of steam and industry to space exploration.  The Space Centre alone contains six interactive galleries, the UK’s largest planetarium, and an iconic 42m high Rocket Tower.

Those staying over will road run back to Nottingham area for reserved meal at our Good Beer Guide pub with camping, the Royal Oak, Car Colston:  royaloakcarcolston.co.uk/ .

Sunday:  After breakfast, we regroup at Nottingham Industrial Museum –nottinghamindustrialmuseum.org.uk/ – where there’s a steam / operating day.  The museum contains galleries reflecting local industries such as mining, railways, bicycles, motorcycles, lace, telecommunications, pharmaceuticals, tobacco and printing.

We will park up within and around the museum which is adjacent to Wollaton Hall – wollatonhall.org.uk/ .  The Hall contains a Natural History Museum and more, all within an attractive Deer Park.  Parking is just £5 for the day which gives free admission to both museum and the Hall.
